Google Top 10

If you own a website you will know how hard it is to get people to visit it on a daily basis. You will probably also know that traffic and website status does not come automatically. It’s not something that you can get without either hard work or paying out lots of money.

In the past I have known webmasters spend thousands of dollars trying to get a site off the ground without any success. I have seen people try technique upon technique that just do not work. One webmaster I knew used to spend $100 per day in Google adwords, only to convert about 2 sales a week. Does this sound like something you are willing to try on the off chance it may work? Even if you have the best product on the market, “the next best thing”, it’s no use if nobody knows it exists.

When you want to find out information or you want to purchase something online, ask yourself, what do you do? Well if you are anything like me or most of the human race that own a PC or laptop, you search Google for what you want. Am I right?

Well Google registers about 2 billion searches per day, that’s a lot of people searching for what they want and need. What if you could be on the first page of Google for your product or website? Well to be honest if you were then your website will no longer be unknown or you would no longer be scraping by or spending lots of money on advertising. There is a way! Ok, so when you search Google you usually find what you want on the first page. So how did they get there? Well Google uses lots of little clever algorithms to determine which sites sit in the Google top 10 and which don’t. Some/all of those algorithms you can actually have an impact on by the way you build and promote your site.

Google first looks at your on page content and the way you have built your site to determine quality and that you are following the search engine rules (yes the search engines have rules). So in order to score high with Google you need to follow certain guidelines that they set. Google ranks a site based on over 200 SEO factors believe it or not. Now not everybody knows what they are, but there are optimization techniques you can use on your website to help with the ones we do know of. This is called On Page SEO. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.

Secondly Google looks at your site off page. This is called off page SEO. Google finds sites link to your and the quality and ranking of those sites. It also looks at the links that are coming to your site in another way to determine your Google rank. It looks at something called Page Rank. The higher the Page Rank of the site linking into yours the better your site will rank. The more of these links you get, and providing your On Page SEO follows guidelines, the better you will rank in the search engines. To rank in the Google top 10 you will need to follow both.
