Web Rankings: How To Get To The #1 Spot In The Search Engines

What is the number one most important step that you can do in your SEO plan when it comes to your web rankings? You have both on page and off page optimization. No search engine publishes information on what makes a website get a higher ranking. If we take a look at other websites and see what they are doing, we can get a pretty good feel of what we need to do. The most important factor when it comes to ranking high in the search engines, consists of how many backlinks you have going to your website.

Backlinks are the sledgehammer of getting a high web ranking. You can rank well for just about anything if you have enough links pointing back to the website you want to promote.

Like I said before we don’t really know what methods the search engine uses but I have found that over time they are making it harder and harder for people to get easy backlinks. In my opinion many of the methods used in the past like reciprocal linking, buying back links are strategies that are going by the wayside with the search engines. I don’t think their linking strategies meet their terms and condition of what they are looking for so that is why this process is getting harder and harder.

I think search engines are going more for the high grade of excellence when it comes to linking. Keep in mind that your SEO plan should be something that is long term. This is why you need to keep up a good practice of getting backlinks.

When getting back links to your website you want to make sure you replicate what happens naturally. So just sticking to one method of linking is not going to be good because more than one way will be used to link to a website.

When you go to your keyword list, find the one that appeals to you the best and make that your primary domain name. Not everyone will link to your website using a keyword. Some will just link back to your website with the URL. If this is the case then the search engines can figure out what the main subject of your site is. Don’t overlook putting the keyword in the title, description and keyword meta-tags. Just those two steps alone can rank you number one in the search engines with the keyword you are trying to target. Just make sure you don’t go out and get those links going back to your website in one day. Web rankings take time to build up.
